Fr. Abelardo Vasquez

Vocations Team Member

FR. ABELARDO VASQUEZ

Fr. Abelardo Vasquez was born and raised in Colombia.  He was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Bridgeport, CT in 2017 by Bishop Frank Caggiano.

Responding to a call for priests in this diocese, he entered St. John Fisher Seminary and studied at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield.  Fr. Vasquez graduated from St. Joseph’s Seminary in Yonkers, N.Y.

After a pastoral year of Ministry as a Deacon in the Church of the Assumption, Westport, his new home parish, his first priestly assignment was as Parochial Vicar for St. Mary, Stamford. Bishop Caggiano appointed him Assistant Vocation Director for the Diocese and he moved to St. Charles Borromeo, Bridgeport to be Parochial Vicar.

Carmelite spirituality has shaped him and his  prayer life as he has a great devotion to the teachings of St. Teresa of Avila and St. John of the Cross and shares with them both a deep and abiding love for Mary, the Mother of Jesus. His experiences studying and living as an international have given him a broader perspective and help him in seeing and thinking “big picture”.

Fr. Vasquez is honored to be a part of the Vocation team.  To encourage, support and journey with those who hear the call is a great gift and a noble part of being a priest.
